Live Australian Male Mud Crabs (Fish Shop Grade)
Mud crabs are found all along the Australian coast, from NSW north to Shark Bay, WA; the majority of the commercial capture comes from Queensland and the Northern Territory, with some from NSW. Mud crabs are known for their sweet and juicy flesh.
Male crabs generally have fuller and firmer meat compared to females. They look beautiful on the table with their vibrant orange cooked shell and ornate claws. Keep the legs on for a strong aesthetic appeal and a distinctive presentation.
They may be cooked in a variety of ways – you can simply steam them with ginger and shallot or their meat goes well with salads, soups, noodles, and rice. Or put your MasterChef hat on and make aromatic Singaporean chilli or pepper mud crabs. For more ideas on how to cook crabs see our Crab Recipes.
