Blue mussels which are smaller than green-shelled mussels, have a distinctly rich, creamy taste, similar to a blend of oysters and clams. The ideal way to prepare these mussels is to steam them in water, wine, or cream broth with herbs and garlic. Mussel meat can be served cold and mildly marinated in mayonnaise, mustard, and garlic sauce and are also great in pasta, salads or served as an appetiser.
